France / Germany / Israel 2004 • Directed by Eran Riklis • Feature Film • 98 minutes
A family deals with the typical anxieties of a wedding day while also confronting the political turmoil of the Middle East. Israeli and Palestinian filmmakers portrait a Druze community that has been under Israeli occupation since the late 60’s. Father of the bride Hammed arranged for his daughter Mona to marry Tallel, who has since become a successful actor in Syria. The occasion is a bittersweet one -- given the combative relationship between Israel and Syria. Once Mona crosses the border to join her new husband, it’s unlikely she will ever be able to return to her village. This film has deep meaning on both a personal and geo-political level.
